Description

Detail shot showing the Jesuit seal: the abbreviation of "Iesus Hominum Salvator", translated as "Jesus savior of men", as well as a cross and 3 nails. They arrived in New Spain in 1572 after the Franciscans (1524), the Dominicans (1525) and the Augustinians (1533). They founded schools, colleges and missions to convert the native people to Christianity. It is from 1697, with the arrival of this group, that formally began the missionary stage in Baja California Sur.
